About Me

Picture
Short Version

I was born and raised in Detroit, and am a graduate of Mumford High School (Detroit) and the University of Michigan. I walked-on (non-scholarship) to Michigan's football team, winning the Big Ten Championship my freshman year. After two years of playing ball, I quit to better serve the university community. I've been employed at the University of Michigan in various roles since I've graduated in 2008 with my B.A. in Sociology. Most recently, I worked as a Program Coordinator at the Ross School of Business helping students from underrepresented backgrounds gain admission to the business school. I've traveled to more than 30 countries as an International Recruitment and Marketing Coordinator. I love South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand, Jordan, Lebanon, Brazil and Colombia. My background is in college admissions and recruitment. I started my career reading thousands of applications for the University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions. I've been married for six years to my college sweetheart Brittany, and together we have three rambunctious boys, James, Jacob, and Jackson. I'm extremely ambitious and can achieve anything in which I devote my time and energy. I resigned from my full-time job to run this company because I believe in it and in my ability to help people live the life of their dreams (read the testimonials). What I want for myself, I want for others. I'm not nearly smart enough to come up with this company on my own, I'd rather play poker and watch Sports Center. I'm on a mission commissioned by the Lord and I must complete this mission by helping as many people as possible communicate to the world the value they hold within.

Long Version

Hire Level Coaching is a culmination of all my experiences and it truly represents who I am. Growing up, I only wanted to play football. If someone were to ask me what I wanted to do for a living, I was very bodacious about playing in the NFL and didn't offer any apologies. I started taking the bold approach to life back in high school. All I wanted was a scholarship to a division one football program, but I wasn't recruited – by anyone. So I took things into my own hands; I created a highlight tape and sent it to more than 70 programs around the country. No one got back to me. Still, I didn't take 'no' for an answer. I was admitted to the University of Michigan due to the academic excellence I displayed in high school and walked-on to the football team, winning a Big Ten Championship my freshman year. I carry with me the lessons I've learned in football in life, and incorporate them into my company. My goal is to instill in my clients the transferable skills I learned playing football for best program in college football so they can use them throughout their job search and in life.

I was raised in the inner-city of Detroit by a single-mother, and was educated in the Detroit Public School system. If you've been reading the news in the last decade, you've heard a lot about the inequalities and challenges Detroit residents face. I was no stranger to many of these challenges. We didn't grow up with a lot of money, but we had a lot of love, so we were rich in my eyes. I had to figure out how to navigate life and get what I wanted. I understood at an early age that effective communication was the key. I've never set a goal that I didn't reach. I attribute this success to my ability to communicate the value I can add to any organization to which I've belonged, whether it was a football team, a university, or a place of employment. I wasn't the smartest growing up, but I had a lot of confidence in my abilities, and I was bold in my approach to pursue my dreams.

After graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2008, I landed an internship with the University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions. After my internship ended, I searched for a permanent position. After applying to a job a day for three months straight, I landed my dream job. I took a job as an International Recruitment and Marketing Coordinator with the University of Michigan in Flint. I got the opportunity to travel the world: more than 30 countries in five continents to recruit international students and help them reach their goals of earning an education in the US. At the age of 25, I've traveled to more countries than most people travel to in a lifetime. Seeing the wonders of world and experiencing such diverse communities was a dream come true. After three years of traveling, I sought other employment opportunities to learn new skills and gain more experience.

After landing my first dream job, I landed my second dream job as an Outreach Program Coordinator at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. I got the opportunity to design programs for more than 300 high school students in the Detroit area. To help students from my hometown gain access to one of the best business schools in the country was truly a dream.  I also coordinated a program for freshmen students from underrepresented backgrounds to help them gain admission to the business school. While the rest of the campus suffered from a decline in underrepresented minority enrollment, we increased the underrepresented minority population at the Ross School of Business by more than 30% in two years. I attribute my success in my first two jobs to my ability to persuade students, families, and administrators to enroll in or provide resources to my programs.

I resigned from my full-time post at the Ross School of Business to devote full-time attention to Hire Level Coaching. Ever since I landed my first dream job, I've been assisting family and friends in their career search by helping them write cover letters and resumes, prepare for interviews, negotiate job offers and salaries, and design effective job search strategies. The demand for my services began to increase rapidly and I had no choice but to charge a fee for my services. The demand for my services continued to grow so I decided to incorporate Hire Level Coaching in 2013. After incorporating, business grew at exponential rates and I had no choice but to quit my full-time job.

Here I am now, the Founder and CEO of my own company, ready and willing to help people find their dream job early in their careers like I did. But I don't want my clients to be like me, I want them to be better than me. They already have the skills, education, background, and knowledge necessary to get the jobs they want, but they don't do a great job of communicating their skills, education, background and knowledge and how they can add value to organizations and employers. This is why I started Hire Level Coaching, I want to help people, young professionals in particular, communicate more effectively throughout the job search process. This is my third dream job, not because I'm the owner of my own company and can make as much money as want, but because I can help people realize their dreams by helping them find their dream jobs, which is one of the best feelings in the world.
